An idea that’s been burned in my brain all year long. Ever since seeing Timothée Chalamet’s “Pursuit of Greatness” SAG award speech, this fire just lit up inside me, I don’t know it just really resonated with me and I’m sure it did many others all over the world. The confidence and rawness was refreshing especially at a time where it seemed like people were too cool to express themselves or even like anything at all. The bold statement didn’t come without some mixed opinions but that’s irrelevant, they’re clearly the problem. I think caring so deeply and being passionate is the coolest thing you can possibly do.
Unknown with what was to unfold, as the year went on we witnessed one of the best marketing campaigns of modern times. From hectic Pop-Up Shops across the world, the now infamous Nahmias ‘Marty Supreme Jacket’ and, of course, the insanely viral EsDeeKid ‘4 Raws’ remix. The unhinged promo run had us seeing the colour ORANGE everywhere and by the end everyone knew about “MARTY SUPREME CHRISTMAS DAY”. It was a full display of those who DREAMT BIG and a sign for you to do the same.
“Marty Supreme is about the pursuit of greatness, that’s what this movie’s about. It’s about ambition, it’s about having a dream at a time where it’s hard to have a dream. You know for that kind of speech, it’s just about recontextualising, I feel like the environment I’m in because you think about De Niro, you think about Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day Lewis those are the greats. The way Michael Jordan is a great, but people don’t wanna make room for the greats today because the nostalgia is so thick and Marty Supreme is the culmination of that. It is about a guy who won’t take no for an answer, it’s about being an idiot in your twenties and about being the greatest at something.”
After actually seeing the movie, I can say you don’t want to be Marty Mauser. Pursuing your dreams so intensely can’t always be the best thing, trust me I know that.
The over arching message still applies tho !!
Pursue your own GREATNESS and don’t be ashamed about it. Whatever your thing is, be unapologetically passionate and just give it your all 2026.
